Wind Point Willow took root with a handful of cuttings from the Sievers School of Fiber Arts on Washington Island, Wisconsin. We planted them in hopes of someday crafting a few garden structures or simple baskets—just enough to satisfy a quiet dream of working with our hands and the land.

Willow, though, teaches patience. It takes years for a harvest robust enough to weave. While we waited, we turned to reed basketry as a way to begin learning the rhythms of weaving. One basket led to another, and we quickly became hooked—not just on the process, but on the surprising versatility of the material and the meditative joy of shaping something both beautiful and useful.

Those first willow shoots have grown tall and healthy for three seasons now and so has the love for this craft.  That first small planting will be useful for basketmaking this winter and the two plantings we’ve done in the meantime are looking good to give us even more to weave with!
